Josephine Bagli Gugerty died on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium, MD. She was 86 years old. Mrs. Gugerty was born June 22, 1929 in Baltimore, MD. – the second of four children born to Dr. and Mrs. Francis L. Bagli. Jo graduated from Notre Dame Preparatory School in 1948, and married Bernard Francis Gugerty on June 27, 1953. Together they raised four children in the Towson area. From 1975 until 1985 Jo enjoyed working as medical secretary for thoracic surgeon Dr. Avraam Karas. She was an avid bridge player, and a trustworthy volunteer. Jo and Bernie later retired in Timonium, and they also enjoyed ‘snow-birding’ for many years to their Winter retirement home in Naples, FL. They remained happily married for 55 years until Bernie’s passing in 2008. In 2011, Jo proved brave and strong by surviving cancer surgery, and then remained cancer-free and in substantially good health until her passing. Jo’s final years were spent in retirement communities enjoying frequent visits from her faithful children, grandchildren, siblings and friends.
The greatest portion of her life was dedicated to her marriage and raising children in the company of relatives and neighbors. Throughout her life, Jo was frank and honest with people, but in a pleasant and encouraging way. She was outgoing and optimistic. She enjoyed laughter, celebrations, successes and blessings, and also persevered through the sacrifices and difficulties of raising a lively family. Jo was a knowledgeable, lifelong sports fan, especially of the Orioles and Ravens. She remained a faithful servant to the Lord and those whom she touched on earth. Her indelible impression is left on the character of her children and grandchildren.
Jo is survived by 4 children: Mimi Wood and her husband Tom of Towson, MD; Stephen Gugerty and his wife Peggy of Newark, DE; Patrick Gugerty and his wife Kate of Baltimore, MD; Nancy Gugerty and her husband Mark Sanford of Newark, DE. Jo is survived by her sister Margaret B. (Peggy) Otenasek of Baltimore, and by two brothers: Vincent T. Bagli and his wife Jean of Finksburg, MD and Francis L. Bagli and his wife Lynn of Williamsburg, VA. Jo is also survived by 11 grandchildren.
