John "Jack" E. Armstrong, Jr.

On August 23, 2026, Jack Armstrong passed peacefully at Mercy Ridge at the age of 95. Jack was predeceased by his devoted wife of 67 years, Mary Armstrong; sons Bill, and his wife, Ticia; John, and his wife, Mary; Bob, and his wife, Judy; Michael, and his wife, Helen; predeceased by his sister, Sr. Jeanne Armstrong SSND; grandchildren Joanne Manzo, Russell, and his wife, Kaitlyn, Billy, and his wife, Colleen, Kelly Kiddy, and her husband, Trevor, Christina, Julia, Jimmy, and his wife, Marie, Megan Ducharme, and her husband, Kyle, Jennifer, Abby O’Neil, and her husband, Nolan, and Lucy; cherished great-grandfather of Brooks, Simms, Jack, Wellen, Auggie, Orson, Faye, Joe, Bobby, Cam, Corbin, Audrey, Brady and Katherine.; and the very many family members and friends who loved him.

Jack graduated from Calvert Hall College High School in 1948 and attended Johns Hopkins University from 1949 to 1950 before enlisting in the army. He was discharged in 1953 and met Mary, who soon became his wife and mother to their four boys, an adventure that would span the next 67 years. He continued his education at JHU, receiving his degree in Electrical Engineering in 1956.

Jack and Mary’s life together started in a small house on Loch Hill Road in Baltimore. Jack supported the family by partnering in a new company, Electronic Modules Corporation (EMC) for which he traveled often. Many wonderful memories are rooted in the house on Loch Hill Road. Mary kept control of her boys with firm discipline instilling in them the knowledge that grievous transgressions would result in additional firm discipline being dispensed “when your father gets home!”

Family vacations were most often spent in Ocean City, the place Jack loved for the long days on the beach and in the sun, nights on the boardwalk drinking beer, and time with his family, and other families that vacationed in Ocean City at the same time.

As Jack’s business grew, it expanded and moved to a new industrial park in Hunt Valley. Jack and Mary moved their boys to a nearby house in Cockeysville, and raised them through their school years. Mary and Jack volunteered at the boys’ schools often, most notably by making many gallons of spaghetti sauce for the annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser at Dulaney HS. Jack’s love for the boys helped him cope with the trials and tribulations of their teenage years, most notably the destruction of several cars.

After the boys moved out and found their partners, and Jack retired from his very successful business, Jack and Mary built their dream home on Brook Farm Court, with a pool and a large plot of land. The pool was a favorite destination for their boys, daughters-in-law, and an expanding group of grandchildren. Jack and Mary hosted many parties in their house for family and friends with Jack manning the grill. Crab feasts were a common occurrence there.

As age crept up on Jack and Mary, they made their way, like many of their friends, to a retirement community in Timonium. Shannon House at Mercy Ridge became their new home. There, they took up bocce ball and were a force to be reckoned with due in part to the many years they shared bowling duckpins.

Jack was an active member at St. Joseph Parish delivering food to food banks. He often played his trumpet at Church. Mary and Jack donated one of the stained-glass windows for the Church’s renovation.

We will all miss Jack, husband, father, father-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend.

A visitation for John Armstrong will be held Thursday, September 3, 2025 from 3 to 6PM at Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley, Inc., 10 West Padonia Road, Timonium, Maryland 21093

A funeral mass will be held Saturday, September 5, 2026 at St. Joseph Parish Catholic Church at 10:00 AM.

A memorial luncheon immediately following the funeral mass at Mercy Ridge Retirement Community in the Dulaney Room, 2525 Pot Spring Road, Timonium, MD 21093
