John W. Sackett

Above all else, John’s life was grounded in his deep relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and an unwavering devotion to his family. He adored his family beyond measure he loved them deeply, cherished every moment spent with them, and took great joy in teaching them life lessons, passing down his skills, and guiding them in faith.

A man who read his Bible faithfully from cover to cover and led countless Bible studies. He impacted students and military personnel in the Netherlands, led a Student Ministry in the Philippines, and labored faithfully with Church Discipleship Ministry in Baltimore, Maryland. John enjoyed traveling the world as he sought to make disciples for Christ. He helped train church leaders in Siberia and encouraged believers in several African countries. He had a special fondness for snow skiing, trips to the beach, relaxing in his hot tub, sharing his wonderful singing voice, and eating apple pie.

John was also a true craftsman and a man of many talents. He built his own house, converting a barn into a residence, and excelled as a skilled woodworker. He kept bees and had fun riding his horses. An adventurous soul who simply loved life, John’s cheerful heart, steadfast faith, and gentle warmth leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of his family and all who knew him. John was the loving husband of Joyce Wilhelmina Sackett for 63 years; devoted father of Julie Wynne Shields and her husband Timothy of Fayetteville, GA, John Gordon Sackett and his wife Susan of Kalispell, MT, Joyella Ruth Stafford and her husband David of Timonium, MD, and the late Jeanine F. Sackett; dear brother of Carolyn Sackett Stevens of Arlington, TX; Cherished grandfather of Thomas John Shields and his wife Bethany of Villa Rica, GA, Charles Arthur Shields of Fayetteville, GA, Stephen Howard Shields of Austell, GA, Carolyn Joyce Shields of Fayetteville, GA, Clark Esidore Shields of Fayetteville, GA, Margaret Eileen Shields of Fayetteville, GA, Isabelle Frances Carroll and her husband William of Oklahoma City, OK, Abigail Jane Farner and her husband Zachary of Boise, ID, Laura Elizabeth Sackett of Kalispell, MT, William DeWitt Sackett of Kalispell, MT, Samuel David Sackett of Kalispell, MT, Kristian Karl Mischke of Randallstown, MD, Dietrich John Mischke of Randallstown, MD, Lorelei Jeanine Mischke of Essex, MD, Chloe Wynn Stafford of Timonium, MD, Daniel David Stafford, III of Bremerton, WA, Lillie Nichole Prichard and her husband Liam of Port Townsend, WA; also survived by 10 precious great grandchildren.

John’s life will be celebrated at Timonium Presbyterian Church, 303 W. Timonium Road, Timonium, Maryland 21093 on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 10AM.
