Joseph Timothy Biglin

He was born on February 23, 1945, in Bloomfield, New Jersey to Thomas and Lillian Biglin. Joe loved growing up in a big family and was the youngest of nine children with four sisters, Joan, Mary Jane, Claire and Janet and four brothers, Thomas, Ronald, Edwin and Jack. Joe was an energetic and inquisitive child who loved to ask questions…earning him the nickname of Joey What? He told tales of his younger days that included Boy Scout adventures, roaming around Bloomfield, a bit of detention and even helping deconstruct and move his house out of the path of the new highway. Being the youngest allowed him to be a bit of a pest to older siblings (and their eventual spouses) but he reveled in being Baby Joey and all the chaos and fun that came with it.

Joe met his future wife, Pat, when they were teenagers, and they were married for almost 60 years. They raised three daughters, Shawn, Melissa and Jennifer, primarily in Maryland, where they moved in 1975. Joe was a fun-loving, easy-going, unserious kind of dad and a true ‘girl dad’ well before that term was coined. He was very proud to have raised confident, resilient daughters and often commented on how glad he was to be surrounded by strong women. He was always happy to have a helper and was patient in explaining what he was doing so the girls learned many important life skills along the way. He extended his love and support to Walter, Doug and Chris when they joined the family as well.

Joe attended Sacred Heart Grammar School and Essex Catholic High School and later earned his business degree at Towson University and his Master of Science in Finance from Loyola University. He was always curious and he applied his business acumen to various industries – banking, real estate, railroads and eventually software development when he brought his skills as a founder of BreakAway. But at heart, he was a salesman and a teacher and was happiest when he was mentoring, educating and supporting folks through his work in human resources.

He was known as Pa to his five grandchildren, Julia, Kate, Alex, Joe and Emma, and was full of jokes, stories, songs and love. They were lucky to have him ever present, supportive and ready to watch and cheer them on at countless events – dance, baseball, track, basketball, theater and so much more. He also enjoyed attending events with them – Orioles and Raven’s games, the theater, the ballet or just a visit to IHOP. The weekly Sunday dinners, family vacations and special events have given them so many wonderful memories of the times they spent together.

Joe was an easy-going, friendly and caring person. He was full of stories, would talk to anyone and had the ability to quickly connect with people…everyone was a friend. Joe had great rapport with children and dogs and loved all of his pups over the years, and particularly, Mac. Joe loved the arts and was an avid fan of classical music, opera and musicals. He also loved sports both watching and participating – he was the high school quarterback and remained an avid fan of all sports. Joe loved a good meal, a Bloody Mary and dessert. As he liked to say, you can call me anything you want but don’t call me late for dinner. He loved traveling even after doing extensive business travel for most of his career, and he was always ready for an adventure or even just a ride through the countryside. We were so very fortunate to have him in our lives and to have been loved so well by him.

Joe is the beloved husband of the late Patricia Ann Biglin; devoted father of Shawn Radek and her husband Walter, Melissa Whatley and her husband Douglas, Jennifer Biglin and her fiancé Christian Sigwart; cherished grandfather of Joseph Radek, Julia, Katherine, Alexander and Emma Whatley; dear brother of Edwin Biglin, Jack Biglin, Mary Jane Garrett, Claire Babbitt, and Janet Dimmick, and the late Joan Ehrenberg, Thomas Biglin, and Ronald Biglin. Joe is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Lemmon Funeral Home, Inc., 10 West Padonia Road, Timonium, Maryland 21093, on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 2:00-5:00 pm for a memorial gathering, with a Memorial Service being held at 3:00 pm.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 11am at Sacred Heart Church, 76 Broad Street, Bloomfield, NJ 07003.
