I have known Karen and her family for a number of years through her participation in Special Olympics Sailing. I always admired her high energy and pleasant disposition. May she rest in peace in the comfort of the risen Christ.

I have worked with Karen for the past 18 years at Mercy Ridge Retirement Community. She was a true inspiration to all of us -- a very special lady and a faithful employee. She showed up every day ready to work hard and bless us with her personal stories, stories about her travels, her sailing competitions on the St. Mary's River, her faith, her involvement with the Special Olympics, her camp adventures, and even her struggles for the past year fighting cancer. At the end of her time here, she would always say, "it's so hard." Karen, now you don't have to fight "so hard" anymore. You are resting in the arms of Jesus and that's a great place to be......forever! We love you.

Dan and I were honored to know Karen through Special Olympic Sailing. She was always a positive and smiling participant who encouraged others to achieve their best! She was able to learn to steer the boat and formed a strong friendship with her unified partner, Linda Kern. Through all of her challenges, Karen's bright smile and can-do attitude shown through. Rest in peace, you will be missed.
