beloved husband of the late Frances Elizabeth Miller, loving father of Laurence Edward Miller III and his spouse John Ambrose and Laurie Wesleigh Rijo De La Rosa and her spouse Edwis Rijo De La Rosa.
Larry was raised in Hampden and graduated from Polytechnic High School. Larry was drafted and served in the Army as well as the Navy reserves. He completed basic training with Elvis Presley and helped maintain and repair the Panama Canal with an engineering team in the 1950’s.
After the service, Larry was employed by Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE). While working, he earned two Bachelors of Science from John’s Hopkins University in engineering. He also earned a Juris Doctorate from Mt. Vernon School of Law. Larry was an electrical engineer and later became General Manager for BGE planning department. He took a break from BGE to join the Rouse Company. He was hired as one of the ten consultants who would plan, develop, and build Columbia Maryland.
Although Larry was a highly accomplished scholar and engineer, his biggest achievement was how he loved his family and enjoyed life. During his tender teen years, he fell in love and married Frances Elizabeth. They shared abundant love and respect throughout their 68-year marriage which would later become the foundation of their family structure. Larry introduced his first child, Laurence Edward Miller III into the world in 1957. His daughter, Laurie followed in 1967. Larry was a wonderful husband and father, always putting his family first. He was fully engaged with family. This included dinners at home every night by 5:30, vacations every summer, ski trips, family tennis matches, family square dancing, backyard pool parties and cook outs as well continuously filling his home with his children’s friends.
Larry had extensive hobbies. Of all his interests, he favored travel and dance. He thoroughly enjoyed adventures around the world. Larry traveled by car, boat, ship, plane, helicopter and even a hot air balloon in Arizona. He rode elephants in Thailand, donkeys in Egypt, and camels in Morocco. Larry kissed the Blarney Stone in Ireland, walked the Great Wall of China, canoed through the Amazon, and cruised just about anywhere a ship could sail.
Larry was highly social, and dancing was a big part of his life. He loved the jitterbug and danced on the Buddy Dean show in the 1950’s. He learned to disco and square danced throughout the seventies. Eventually he became a ballroom dancer. The waltz was his favorite dance.
He took every opportunity to love, support, and enjoy his family and friends. If Larry were here today, he would remind us that life is a journey that offers endless opportunities for fun and fellowship.
The family will receive friends at the LEMMON FUNERAL HOME OF DULANEY VALLEY INC., 10 W. Padonia Road (at York Road) Timonium, Maryland 21093 on Sunday, December 4, 2022 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with a Celebration of Larry’s life beginning at 12:00pm.
