Leilani Rae Savick, a devoted wife, loving mother, passionate teacher, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed into eternal life on her 85th birthday, September 10, 2025.
Born on September 10, 1940, Leilani was a proud graduate of Homerville High School, Class of 1958. She went on to earn her degree from Kent State University in 1962, launching a lifelong commitment to education. Leilani began her teaching career at Cloverleaf High School, where she taught shorthand and typing “on those old manual machines,” touching the lives of many young students.
After stepping away from the classroom to raise her sons, Leilani returned to teaching through a substitute assignment at Medina High School. That opportunity became a 23-year tenure, during which she taught shorthand, business English, office procedures, and introduced word processing to the curriculum before her retirement in 2002.
Leilani’s life was a reflection of service—both in and out of the classroom. She and her beloved husband Edwin were active members of their church, singing on the Praise Team and serving in lay witness missions across state lines. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she lived it boldly and joyfully.
A gifted singer, Leilani sang with the Cloverleaf Mother Singers and participated in their annual events. In retirement, she continued giving generously of her time—tutoring adults at Project: LEARN, and teaching life skills to women at the Battered Women’s Shelter. Her mission was always clear: “To do all we can to serve the Lord, help others to be prepared, and always be a witness for Jesus in everything we do.”
If you were ever blessed to receive one of Leilani’s annual Christmas letters, you likely remember her words not just for their warmth, but for their unwavering message of the redeeming love of Christ and the importance of accepting Him as Savior.
Leilani is survived by her loving husband of many years, Edwin Savick; her sons and daughter in laws, Doug (Dawn) and David (Stephanie); grandchildren Tyler, Nicholas, Kyle, Benjamin, Noah, Sophia, and Athena; and great-grandchildren Carter, Caden, Koa, and Tatum. She is also survived by her sister Pam and a host of extended family and friends who were deeply impacted by her love, wisdom, and faith.
Through every celebration and trial, Leilani’s faithful refrain remained the same: “Praise the Lord.”
Her life was her witness, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
