Marsha and I were reflecting on Lorraine's life after hearing of her passing last Friday, and Marsha asked me – if you could sum up Lorraine in one word, what would it be?  Without thinking I immediately responded – fun!  I think that word fits her to a tee.            

 I first met Lorraine at a family gathering at Pat and Ed's farm, not too long after Marsha and I were married, and was immediately struck by her beauty, kindness and her wonderful sense of humor.   And I knew we were going to have fun whenever we got together from then on.    I had heard of the legendary Pac family gatherings at the Monkton farm and Aunt Lil's famous dinner parties throughout the years and Martha's Christmas parties, and how at every occasion, a few of which I was fortunate enough to witness, Lorraine really knew how to work a room.  She was one classy, elegant lady.  

 Now I have to explain that Lorraine seldom referred to me by my first name – rather, I was a number – the number 2!   Now this began long after her beloved Edward had passed away, and the running joke was that Ed Harbin had become her #1 as she put it, but should anything interfere, (like maybe Pat?), then the sights were going to be set on yours truly, #2!

 Everyone knows how much Lorraine loved to dine out.  Marsha and I discovered this trait upon becoming members of the wine tasting dinner group at the Manor Tavern, which also afforded a wonderful opportunity to meet many of the friends she had made there.  In recalling our dinner meetings, I'm made aware of how good the economy was for commercial real estate appraisers at that time, because, besides the wine tasting dinners,  we made the rounds from the Milton Inn, the Oregon Grille, Liberatore's, Marconi's and even two trips to the Inn at Little Washington.  


 As an example of her generosity, on the occasion of one of her birthdays, Lorraine would have no part in being treated to the meal, and insisted on picking up the dinner tab for a small group of us celebrating the milestone at the Oregon Grille.
  
 We were blessed to have Lorraine, her niece Joanie and dear friend Donny join Marsh and me on one of our trips to Italy.   A memory from that particular trip in 2004 that typifies her sense of humor will always stay with me.  Lorraine and Joanie were among seven of us in one of the two vans that I was driving.  On a particularly tedious trip from Volterra, in Tuscany, to a town in the Cinque Terra over a road that traversed the edge of a craggy cliff, thousands of feet above the Ligurian Sea, we were slowed down considerably by an elderly gentleman riding a bicycle up a very steep, narrow and winding portion of the roadway and I didn't have enough room to pass him safely.  Finally, after about ten minutes of frustration, from the back of the van Joanie commanded jokingly, ‘oh go ahead and hit him Bob, he's had a good life'.  Well, after a roaring group laugh I was finally able to pass him and we made it to our hotel shortly thereafter.  After settling in we all gathered in the lobby for a before dinner drink where, to our surprise there was the elderly gentleman, Victorio, standing behind the bar.  Lorraine immediately turned to Joanie and bellowed for all to hear, ‘way to go Joanie, you almost killed our bartender'!

      Lorraine always loved a good joke, and whenever we were going to be together I would make sure I had at least one at the ready.  And Lorraine would always respond in kind.  For quite awhile I would send Lorraine a joke via snail mail (Lorraine didn't have an email account at that time) that had been passed along to me and she was always so appreciative.  She would often say, ‘boy that was a good one', remembering one of the jokes when we would see each other.  And it always seemed that the more off-color they were, the more she enjoyed them!   
 Yes, Lorraine certainly believed in living life to the fullest.  And now that she's in heaven, reunited with Edward and so many family members and friends that have gone before her, Saint Peter has only one more thing left to be said, and that is – ‘welcome Lorraine, now let the party begin'!

 Over the years I enjoyed Aunt Lorraine at many happy and noisy Pac family gatherings including memorable picnics on the farm in Monkton. One day when I was  grown and married, Aunt Lorraine told me to drop this Aunt stuff (I felt as if I traveled through a right of passage) and that day forward she was Lorraine, a very dear friend.  I have many wonderful memories of Lorraine and they all seem to center around delicious food and lots of laughter. I will miss the twinkle in her eyes, her laughter and her kindness

Lorraine will always have an especially warm and enduring place in my heart.  I married into the Wojciechowski family and was immediately treated as one of her special daughters. I'm left with many emotions and memories that I would never trade for anything. Thank you Mom Mom. Lots of fun! I love you.

Lorraine loved our chrusciki.  Whenever we got together, her 1st question was, "OK, where are the chrusciki?".  We loved making them knowing that she enjoyed them so much.  It was always a treat for us to watch her enjoying eating them.  Just one of the many fond memories that we have of Lorraine.  Now, when we make them, it won't be quite the same.  May God Bless and comfort the Wojciechowski family at this sad time.

Marsha thanks for sharing the picture from our trip to Italy.  Aunt Lorraine was my favorite aunt and I chose to remember her as she was then with a joke to be told, a smile on her face and a Cosmopolitan in her hand.

Lorraine was the life of the party on our 2004 trip to Italy.

Lorraine was lots of fun to be with.  She  always had a story, joke or funny anecdote to share with her friends and visitors.    We will miss her smile and laughter.

Lorraine was an amazingly wonderful woman.she will forever be in my heart. May all of the Wojceicowski family find peace in her resting place in Heaven with her beloved husband Ed.
