
Margaret was born December 12, 1924, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Samuel Reuben Hatch and Belle Howard Hatch.
She grew up in Whitefish Bay, WI and attended Carleton College in Northfield, MN, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry. Her first job was as a chemist at Pabst Brewery Labs in Milwaukee, WI. She married Thomas G. Butler in 1951. In 1957, the family moved to the Baltimore, MD area and bought a house at 932 Beaverbank Circle in Towson, MD. While Thomas worked at the Martin company and at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Margaret stayed at home until her all her children were in school. She then took a teaching position in the Chemistry Department at Catonsville Community College (CCC) and over time rose the position of Professor.
Margaret loved reading and study. During the time of her employment at CCC she continued to study and wound up receiving a Master’s Degree and an Advanced Degree from Johns Hopkins University. She also took classes at Loyola University Maryland. Margaret spent many summers studying in England.
For the last decade Margaret lived in her home at 352 Robin Rd. in the Bristol Village Retirement Community in Waverly, OH. She was an active member in a number of organizations including the art club and the book review club.
She is survived by her three children, Brian (Rebecca) Butler, Danna (William) Truslow and Douglas (Nicolette) Butler and her nine grandchildren, Hannah Truslow, Derek Butler, Samuel Truslow, Sarah Butler, Thomas Butler, Noah Butler, Evan Butler, Jeanette Butler and Nicholas Butler. She is also survived by her two sisters, Barbara Verby and Joan Hull along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas in 1993. Margaret generously endowed the college fund for each of her grandchildren.
She shared her love of reading with everyone and most enjoyed opening up the New York Times on Tuesdays to read the Science Times section.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 29 at 10am at Sater’s Church Cemetery in Lutherville, MD.
