Marshall “Buzz” Norval Ragsdale, 91, of Timonium, Md., died on March 16, 2013, of complications from multiple myeloma. He was born on July 15, 1921, in East Orange, N.J., to Marshall Davis Ragsdale and Elizabeth Norval Ragsdale. He graduated from East Orange High School in 1939 and attended Bucknell University. In July 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, and after attending Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Va., he served with Marine Fighting Squadron 314 on Midway, Ie Shima, and Okinawa. He was discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves as a Captain in 1958. In 1946, he began work for the National Cash Register Company in Newark, N.J. During his 36 years with NCR, he served as branch manager in Baltimore, as well as in Providence, R.I., and Hopkinsville, Ky., and in executive sales positions in Philadelphia, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. After his retirement from NCR in the early 1980s, he and his son Tom established Town Marketing, a direct mail marketing firm located in Timonium, and he continued to work there until 2008.
He married Mary Elizabeth Divine (who survives him) on April 10, 1948, in Spring Lake, N.J. Also surviving him are a daughter, Lynn Salvo, and her husband Anthony of Berwyn, Pa.; a son, Bruce, and his partner Richard Scobey of Washington, D.C.; a son, Thomas, and his wife Lynn of Timonium, Md.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his faithful caregivers, Valerie Walker and Tadoria Hawkins. He was active in the Rotary Club of Towson and a member of Towson United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends in the Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley, Inc., 10 W. Padonia Road (at York Road) Timonium, MD 21093 on Monday, March 18, 2013 from 4 to 7. A funeral service will be celebrated in the Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 19, at 9 am. Private burial.
