On July 2, 2026, Martha Lee Johnston passed away peacefully at the age of 96.
She was the devoted mother of Karen Lee Johnston, Walter Alfred Johnston, Jr. (Jim), Sonda Lee Anderson (Ian), and the late Sherry Baquol. Martha was the cherished grandmother of Chris Baquol (Kait), Kyle Baquol (Laura), Emily Anderson, Will Anderson, and Lauren Anderson, and the proud great-grandmother of Gordy, Dodge and Logan. She was also the loving sister of Dixie Petersen, the late Jane Johnson, the late Elizabeth Gorusch, and the late Harriet Luber.
Martha Ann Lee was born on March 10, 1930, to the late Alfred Franklin Lee and Lulu Euphemia Burns. She graduated from Towson High School in 1947. Throughout her life, she called Towson, Glen Arm, and Cockeysville home.
Her first job was as a bank teller at Towson National Bank. After becoming a mother, Martha dedicated herself to raising her four children, always putting her family first. She later returned to banking, where she became Head Teller at Bank of America. She also enjoyed working as a nursery schoolteacher, a role that reflected her kind and caring nature.
Martha found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved playing cards and Rummikub with family, and cheering on her beloved Baltimore Orioles. One of her favorite memories was attending an Orioles game at the age of 94 with her two-year-old great-grandson.
A faithful member of Towson United Methodist Church, Martha joined the congregation on a snowy Palm Sunday in 1942 at just 12 years old. She remained an active member throughout her life, serving as an usher and helping count the weekly offering.
Above all else, Martha treasured her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the greatest joy of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She will be remembered for her quiet strength, gentle heart, unwavering faith, and the love she shared so generously with those around her.
