On Tuesday, October 6, 2026, Mildred Anita Adams passed away. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard “Dick” Adams for 70 beautiful years; loving mother of Gail McCormick (Tom) of Baltimore, MD, Mark Adams (Ron) of St. Petersburg, FL, Cheryl Adams of Timonium, MD, and Holly Hynson (Jay) of Knoxville, TN; cherished grandmother of Emma and Ashley Hynson of Knoxville, TN; dear step-sister of John Papier (Joan) of Fallston, MD and Patricia Holmes of Clarksville, TN; sister-in-law of Douglas Adams (Candace) of Winchester, VA. Mildred is also survived by her best friend of 88 years Connie Sachs of White Marsh, MD.
Millie and Dick had an extraordinary loving relationship. They both lived their Catholic faith and attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cockeysville as long as they could. During the Covid-19 pandemic and while being bedbound with Dick constantly at her side, they participated in masses online.
Millie and Dick had beautiful flower gardens with ornamental trees. Millie planned the gardens, and Dick planted them and tended to them. Millie used to make lovely Japanese flower arrangements and other flower arrangements for their home.
Millie loved to sew and made clothing for her children and herself. She even made matching outfits for Holly and Cheryl. She made Halloween costumes for all of her children. Millie made mother-of-the-bride dresses for Gail’s and Holly’s weddings. During and after losing a lot of weight recovering from her car accident of 2012, she altered a lot of her clothing to fit her new figure.
Holidays and birthdays were always celebrated with family dinners, delicious food and often elaborate table décor. Millie was an excellent cook, and always made healthy meals for her family, with protein, vegetable and starch, and milk for the children. She also baked cakes and made pies. One of her specialties was lemon meringue pie, and at Christmastime, she made 5 or 6 types of cookies. Those were memorable.
Millie and Dick found a way to take a family of six on vacations - tent camping. The family went to Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach, Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, Kings Dominion, Hersheypark, Myrtle Beach, Assateague Island, and Ocean City. There was a camping trip to Key Largo, Florida, and another one to New England. Also during the summers, they would join local pools to relax and socialize.
Through the years, Millie and Dick were active with a group of friends from Millie’s childhood. They played games at each others’ houses and went to various events together.
Millie borrowed books from the library to study for the civil service exam. Once their youngest child was in school, Millie worked for the federal government. She worked for the VA Administration for awhile then moved to the Social Security Administration.
Millie and Dick loved to take ocean cruises, starting in the 1990s. They traveled all over the world. They loved to visit their son, Mark, in Florida and would often cruise from Tampa.
Even near the end of her life on earth, Millie loved to have company. When someone came to her house or her room at the assisted living facility, she greeted them with a big genuine smile and welcomed them, and told them how glad she was to see them. She was always looking out for everyone else, asking if they were all right. Millie will certainly be missed here on earth.
The family will receive friends at the Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley, Inc., 10 W. Padonia Road (at York Road), Timonium, MD 21093 on Monday, October 12, 2026 from 11am until 12pm at which time a Celebration of Mildred’s life will begin. Entombment to follow at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
