Nancy Louise Ryan

Beloved wife of the late Matthew L. Ryan; Adored and cherished mother of; Peggy Farnell and her husband Jim, Kate Watson and her husband Christopher; Dear sister of the late; Jim LaBay and Bill LaBay; Cherished Grandmother of; Jamie Farnell, Jeremy Farnell, Courtney Farnell, Matthew Watson, and Liza Watson; Loving aunt of Craig LaBay and Paul LaBay.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, Nancy nurtured a lifelong love of language and poetry. For more than 30 years, she dedicated her career to Johns Hopkins University, serving as the administrator for the Writing Seminars Department, where she supported students, faculty, and visiting authors. In her time there, she had the joy of meeting and forming many cherished friendships, and hosting countless events for writers and literary voices. Experiences she cherished deeply. A devoted member of the Roland Park Women’s Club for over 20 years, she believed in community, friendship, and enriching the lives of others. Outside of Nancy’s professional and civic life, she found delight in shopping, whether browsing local antique shops, discovering hidden gems on day trips, or treating herself to small treasures that sparked joy. Her life was a collection of meaningful chapters—filled with curiosity, compassion, and joy—and her influence continues to inspire all who were part of her story.
