An early Patty-adventure, with unintended consequences....

Patty was just a year older than me, and far more exuberant. As a teenager in the mid-1960's, Patty fell under the sway to the Beatles.  For Easter in 1964, while everyone else was making their regular  Easter eggs, Patty decided to show her early affection for the lads from Liverpool by making a set of Easter eggs, one each of John, Paul, George and Ringo.  She spent a lot of time making their faces, and hair, just right, so that everyone would instantly recognize who was who.

Of course, these works of art needed to be displayed, so she put them on a small shelf in her bedroom. There they sat until that fateful day in July, 1964.  It was the first real break-up of the Beatles, well before the White Album, and perhaps even before A Hard Days Night.  On that day, one of Fab Four could no longer take the pressure that had been building up over the previous several months. Maybe it was John and maybe it was Paul, these details were lost in the confusion of the event. What is clear, is that one of them could no longer hold it in, and there was a curious "PFFFFFT" sound that came from one of the eggs on the display shelf. Instantly the bedroom was filled with the vile smell of sulphur, which then proceeded to fill the entire house.  Somebody  kept their wits about them, opened Patty's bedroom window, and ignomiously tossed all four eggs into the front yard, where their fragrance wafted through our West Baltimore neighborhood.  The final breakup was a pale comparison to our personal experience.

Memory of my sister Patty

One of my first memories was being in a neighbor’s hammock being rocked by my sister Patty.  I was just a small child and she was in her early teens.  She left home when I was young, so our lives didn’t overlap much back then.

Later in life after Patty moved to Timonium, I'd sometimes call her on the way home from work.  She’d usually ask when I was coming over and I would usually say right now.  Patty and I never really planned to get together, we just did.  When I’d go over just to say hi, she would greet me at the door with a big hug and a smile.  We would sit and chat about nothing and after an hour or so, I would go.  I always felt better leaving then when I came.  I will miss this.  Being around her was always entertaining and she certainly had her opinions on things and she would never hold back.
