

Philip Blessed Schnering, 94, longtime resident of Baltimore County, MD, died June 29, 2012. Born on December 26, 1917, in Detroit, MI, Mr. Schnering was the son of William Willett Blessed, Jr., and Dorothy Russell Blessed Schnering.
Mr. Schnering lived in Evanston, IL, until 1959, when the family moved to Baltimore, MD. He earned a BA in Business Administration from The University of Chicago in 1939. He was an All American and selected for the 1940 US Olympic Team in water polo. He served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy, Pacific Theater, during World War II aboard the USS New Hanover.
Following a career as a business executive with the Curtiss Candy Company in Chicago, IL, and McCormick & Company in Baltimore, Mr. Schnering enjoyed many years in retirement pursuing his passions for antique automobiles, sailing, painting, sculpting, archaeology, and music. He was especially active in organizations benefiting youth, such as the Boy Scouts of America, where the former Eagle Scout received the Silver Beaver Award and served on the boards in Evanston and Baltimore. He was Chairman, National Board of Directors, Camp Fire Girls, and President of the Lincoln Boys Club in Baltimore.
Mr. Schnering is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Ruth Scott Schnering; his children Sally (Richard) Hutchins, Sandra Freese, Philip (Susan) Schnering, Judith (James) Hengerer, Wendy (Mike) Meehan, and Edwina (Ike) Eichner; his grandchildren Kim Shelton (Dimitris Demopoulos), Jim (Karin) Shelton, Amy Freese Renner, Robin (Brian) Mellen, Lucas (Lee) Hutchison, Russell (Maureen) Hutchison, Brian (Bethany) DeHerrera-Schnering, Penny Schnering (Dale) Smythe, and Steven (Nancy) Eichner; and his great-grandchildren Kassie Demopoulos, Grayson and Cole Shelton, Charlotte and Marshall Renner, Nicholas Mellen, Amelia, Atticus, and Bennett DeHerrera-Schnering, Chelsea and Grant Hutchison, and Keegan Rose Hutchison.
Services and interment are private. A memorial concert will be held at Broadmead in the future. Contributions toward a Philip Schnering Memorial Concert Fund should be made out to Broadmead, and sent to Ruth Schnering, PO Box 857, Cockeysville, MD 21030.
