Dr. Hennessy, a nationally respected neurosurgeon for over 45 years, earned his
bachelor's degree from The College of the Holy Cross, and his medical degree from
Georgetown University School of Medicine. After postgraduate training in surgery at the
University of Minnesota, Dr. Hennessy completed his residency training in neurosurgery
at the University of Maryland and had additional post graduate training in England and
Sweden. He later earned a MBA from Loyola University Maryland. In 1967, during the
Vietnam War, he was drafted and served in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant Commander
assigned as a neurosurgeon to the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. He was a former
president of the Saint Agnes Medical Staff and the Neurosurgical Society of the

Dr. Hennessy was the first surgeon in Maryland to treat a basilar artery aneurysm using

for his patients in steadfast determination to live up to his calling. He was inspired by
The Daughters of Charity at St. Agnes Hospital, where he served as Chief of
Neurological Surgery, to “be the very best you can be, for the patients.”
As the patriarch of his family, Bob was the brightest mind, the emotional rock, and the
force that held them together. He was the first person to consult when his children or
grandchildren had a question about anything medical or financial, but he was always at
his finest when it came to answers about life in general. With his generous heart and
direct way of telling you how it is, you could always come to him for help or a reality
check.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 28, 2021 at St. Joseph
Parish, Cockeysville, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dr. Hennessy’s memory can

“May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be always at your back...and until we
meet again, May God hold you in the palm of his hand.”
