It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Livingston Torr, age 98, on August 26, 2024, due to complications from a fall. Bob, as he was affectionately known, was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-uncle, whose life was marked by unwavering faith, kindness, and a steadfast commitment to his family and church.
Born on April 27, 1926, in Baltimore, Bob was the devoted son of Harold L. and Elizabeth G.
Torr. He grew up in the Forest Park neighborhood, where he attended All Saints School, Forest Park High School, City College, and Calvert Hall College. His early years were shaped by a strong sense of friendship and a deep-rooted faith that would guide him throughout his life.
In 1944, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the Army Air Force, serving as an Aerial Gunner. After two years of dedicated service, he was honorably discharged and returned home to begin a successful career. He worked for Morton Salt, Procter & Gamble, and Liberty Mutual before embarking on a forty-year career as an insurance agent with Allstate Insurance Company.
Bob’s life took a joyful turn when he met Evelyn Mullineaux Torr at the University of Maryland’s Varsity Grill. The two shared a deep and enduring love, marrying and spending sixty-four wonderful years together until Evelyn's passing in 2015. Together, they raised a loving family and were active members of their church and community.
He was a long-time resident of Windemere, where he enjoyed golfing at Eagles Nest, The Golden Eagles, playing cards, and spending time with his family and friends. His faith was a central part of his life, and he was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Long Green Valley, where he found comfort and fraternity.
Bob is survived by his children, Randolph L. Torr, Barbara C. Torr, R. Gregory Torr (Cynthia), and his daughter-in-law, Peggy F. Torr. He was a proud grandfather to Alexander, Meredith, and Matthew, a loving great grandfather to Curran and Henry, and a loving great-uncle to Cassidy and Erik. Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife, Evelyn, and his sons, Michael B. Torr and David J. Torr.
Bob will be remembered for his warm smile, his generous spirit, and his unwavering love for his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of love and faith that will be cherished by all who knew him.
