Shirley Elizabeth (Webster) Lentz, daughter of E. Pauline and Maynard S. Webster, passed away on March 5, 2018 at 90 years of age. Beloved mother and wife, loving daughter and sister, and devoted child of God, she stands now among the angels. Shirley grew up in Highlandtown in Baltimore City, graduated from Patterson Park High School, and was active in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she was a member of and leader in the Luther League youth group.
In 1957, she married John Vernon Lentz, also of Highlandtown and a member of the Luther League at St. Paul’s. After starting a family and relocating to Timonium, she became an active member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and Superintendent, Church Council member, leader in the Lois’ Circle Women’s Group, and sang in the Church Choir. Her life was centered in church and family, and she enjoyed the company of her church community and friends next only to her family. Shirley was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing delicious meals for her family and friends. She was also a sports fan and enjoyed watching football games on TV. She had an unwavering devotion to her beloved grandchildren and loved spending time with them playing games and reading stories. She was also a talented musician who not only sang in the church choir but also loved to play the piano.
Shirley was the mother of three boys, and became an enthusiastic camper with her husband and sons. She said, “I knew, even though I was a city girl, that I’d better get used to camping or I’d be spending a lot of free time alone.” As time went by, she came to thoroughly enjoy traveling and visiting our National Parks and many other natural wonders from the comfort of family campsites. One of her wishes was to be remembered for her enjoyment of these wonderful times with her family. Shirley was preceded in passing by her husband John Vernon, their parents, and their siblings. She is survived by sons David, Daniel and Mark, daughters-in-law Deanna (Dan) and Sara (Mark), grandchildren Nicole, Zachary, Erika, Katherine, Kevin, Courtenay and Steven, as well as her cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families.
The family will receive friends in the Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley Inc., 10 West Padonia Road, (at York Road) Timonium, Maryland on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 10am to12noon with a Celebration of Shirley’s Life at 12noon. Interment Private.
