Susan Lynn Culp

Susan Lynn Culp (nee High) was born Oct 4th 1955, the only child of M. Alvin and Mary High. She grew up surrounded by extended family and spent many summers with her Aunt Leona and “cousins” on the bay in Cape St Claire. After graduating from Northeast High School, Susan attended Union Memorial School of Nursing, where she met many lifelong friends – including her future sister in law Jackie. Susan met David, her husband of almost 43 years, when she attended Jackie’s wedding and David was a groomsman. After nursing school, Susan took a job at Johns Hopkins Hospital as a pediatric nurse and continued to work at Hopkins for her entire nursing career. After the birth of her only child Rebecca in 1985, Susan returned from maternity leave to take what she thought would be a temporary job as the nurse manager for the NICU. She fell in love with the position and with the people she managed and mentored and went on to spend over 30 years in that role, getting both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees along the way. She retired in the Fall of 2019, where she spent her time quilting and making sock monkeys. She was very active in her church Timonium UMC, most recently with the Missions committee. She loved volunteering at SCRAP in Baltimore and almost always came home with treasures to craft with afterwards. Some of her fondest memories are of family beach week and camping. She passed away peacefully late in the evening on March 14th, 2023 after a long battle following a bone marrow transplant. Mrs. Susan Lynn Culp is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, David Bruce Culp, as well as her child Rebecca Vath and her husband Richard; Susan is also survived by her cherished family, friends and coworkers. A funeral service will be held for Susan at 11am on Friday, March 24 at Lemmon Funeral Home, 10 W. Padonia Road, Timonium, MD 21093.
