Violet Kasbohm Saxe

Violet “Vi” Kasbohm Saxe, Vi as she was best known by her friends and colleagues passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026. Education was very important to Vi. She continued her education and funded her own way through the University of Rochester. When her daughters reached school age, her passion for helping others led her to pursue her master's degree and Guidance Counselor Certification from Johns Hopkins University. Vi worked hard to support her family as a guidance counselor for the Baltimore County Schools. She will always be remembered as a wonderful role model for her family.

A dedicated educator with a heart for youth, Vi served for many years as a School Guidance Counselor at both Norwood Elementary and Cockeysville Elementary. She cared deeply for each of her students, offering guidance, encouragement, and unwavering support. Beyond her professional life, Vi was a woman of remarkable skill, independence, and energy. She was a true self-starter who took pride in doing things herself. Her lifelong love of sewing extended to crafting her own home curtains, and sewing clothing for herself, daughters, and mother-in-law. She had a wonderful eye for a good deal and thoroughly enjoyed discount shopping, always finding joy in the search for a great treasure. She often worked hard to strip and stain the unique furniture pieces that she found and added them to her home.

Her home was the true heart and central hub of the family. A compassionate anchor during life's difficult moments, she always welcomed loved ones with an open heart and unwavering support. Her favorite joy was filling her home with warmth, laughter, and extended family around the table during holiday dinners. She lovingly assisted her sister-in-law through health challenges providing post operative care in her home and driving her to appointments as needed.

Vi was an excellent bridge player. She enjoyed competing in duplicate bridge tournaments, a passion she shared with her beloved husband. Together, they played frequently in social groups as well and achieved the distinguished level of Life Masters. She found tranquility outdoors in her flower garden and stayed active through her regular swims at the Towson YMCA and the Beaverdam Swim Club.

Travel brought great joy to her life. She and her husband explored the world together, taking trips across Europe and Canada, and frequently returning to Maine, a place she particularly cherished. Vi was also deeply committed to her local community, regularly working the election polls in the Phoenix, MD area, where she was dedicated to ensuring fair representation for all parties. With an incredible mind that rivaled any Jeopardy! grand champion, she loved astounding her family by calling out answers faster than anyone else in the room and often before the best contestants.

Above all, Vi cherished her family and the time they spent together. Her independent spirit, kind heart, and vibrant presence will be missed by all who knew her. Vi was the devoted wife of the late Douglas MacKay Saxe; loving mother of Kirsten Saxe and her husband William Thompson and Katharine Saxe; cherished grandmother of Gary DeVor and Justin Thompson; dear sister of the late Marian Kasbohm, Audrey Rutan, and Margarethe Kasbohm.

The family will receive friends in the Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley, Inc, 10 W. Padonia Road (at York Road) Timonium, Maryland 21093 on Sunday, August 16, 2026 from 10am to 11am with a Celebration of Violet’s life beginning at 11am.
