William Foreman Lee, one of the twin sons of Phillips Fitzgerald Lee, Jr and Lorana Foreman Lee, was born May 3, 1930. He was born in Cockeysville, MD now known as Hunt Valley, MD. He attended St. Paul’s School for Boys, graduated from Baltimore City College, and continued his education at Johns Hopkins University. He enlisted in the Army during the Korean War; 2 of his years in the Army were spent in Germany with the Combat Engineers.
Mr Lee was Co-Chairman of the Towson Recreation Council Basketball program, Chief Baseball Umpire and referee of Football & Lacrosse. In addition he umpired college and high school baseball and basketball. "Bill" was employed by several engineering and surveying companies before going to work as the first Engineer in the Land Acquisition Division of the Department of General Services, State of Maryland. At the time of his retirement, he was the Contract Officer for the Department.
When he retired, Bill and his wife Sunny moved to Cape Coral, Florida. They lived there for fifteen years, where he volunteered in the Emergency rooms of Lee Memorial Hospital and Health Park Hospitals, both in Fort Myers, Florida. They returned to Maryland in 2001 to be near family and friends. They lived in the Ocean Pines area until 2017.
Mr. Lee was a Lifetime member of The Society of the Lee's of Virginia, he is proudly a direct descendant of Robert E. Lee. His great, great, great, great, Grandfather was Colonel Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee, Robert E. Lee's Father. Two of Robert's descendants, Richard Henry Lee and Francis Lightfoot Lee (descendants from the Leesylvania line in northern VA) were signers of the Declaration of Independence.
While living in Ocean Pines, Bill served on the Veterans Memorial Committee of Worchester County. He served on that committee until he and Sunny moved to Glen Meadows in Glen Arm, MD in September 2017.
Bill and Sunny were married over 40 years, they lived in Glen Meadows community until Sunny passed away December 23, 2020.
A Memorial service will be held for Bill at Sherwood Episcopal Church in Cockeysville on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at 12:00 PM where he sang in the choir with his Mother and was an Acolyte with his twin brother Phil. He is loving husband of the late Agnes Lee; beloved father of Robin Lee and her late partner Thomas Anthony, Jr., William F. Lee, Jr. and his wife Deb Taylor; John Lee and his wife Brenda Lee; Step-father of Bruce Anderson and his partner Gale, Gary Anderson and his wife Linda, Sunny Anderson, and Richard Anderson and his wife Lisa; cherished grandfather of 19 grandchildren.
