Bill was an accomplished photographer, engineer, inventor, educator, and lifelong problem-solver who accumulated many patents over the years both in the United States and internationally.
Bill loved sailing, and he was a private pilot who flew powered aircraft and sailplanes. He loved soaring in his glider and often described soaring as “sailing in three dimensions.” He also enjoyed fly fishing, a passion he shared with his son, with whom he made fly rods.
Quiet, kind, humble, and easygoing, Bill had a dry sense of humor and a love for flannel. He was happiest pursuing his interests, sharing his knowledge with those around him, and working with his hands. It’s been said that his favorite hobby was “fixing things -- whether it needs it or not.”
In Bill’s honor, the family requests casual attire and invites everyone to wear flannel as homage to a man who was comfortable being exactly who he was.
Bill is the beloved husband of 40 years to Lisa T. Stickney (nee Nassar); father of Thomas Warren Stickney; brother of Arthur Clinton Stickney and Carolyn Stickney Ackerman and her husband Joel Ackerman, brother-in-law to George J. Nassar and his wife Annette Jubie Nassar. Bill is also survived by six nieces and nephews and many other family and friends.
