William Arthur Warmington, Sr., died peacefully on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Johns Hopkins Medical Center after a short battle with cancer. Bill’s life was marked by dedication to family, friends, and community. He was a man who was there when you needed him – as a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, colleague, or trusted advisor. Bill will be sadly missed by all those who knew him.
Bill was born in Morristown, New Jersey, in 1938. He overcame many hardships and challenges presented in his childhood and credits his time spent at Girard College, a school for economically disadvantaged, fatherless boys. Girard had a part in fostering Bill’s high intellect, resilience, ambitions and how to throw a punch. He went on to graduate from Seton Hall University and did graduate studies at Boston University. He served on active duty in the US Navy and received two commendations. Bill married his high school sweetheart, Nancy, in 1960. He began his career at Bell Telephone Laboratories and went on to hold senior executive positions in marketing with Xerox Corporation, Data Terminal Systems, and General Instrument Corporation. His long career gave him the opportunity to live in El Salvador and Venezuela as well as to travel to Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. He was the founder of Warmington International, a management consulting firm, and also an integral member of Edaptive Systems where he served as Vice President and General Manager until retiring at the age of 75.
Bill’s involvement in his community was longstanding. He served on the Zoning Board of Appeals, was elected a Justice of the Peace, and served as President of the Longstone Homeowners Association for twelve years. Bill was very generous with his time throughout his life and always jumped in to help. For several years, Bill dressed as a Santa’s helper so that his neighborhood's children could have their wishes heard.
Bill was predeceased by his brother Robert (1924-2008) and sister Joan (1931-1993). Bill is survived by Nancy, his wife of 62 years; his son William Wamington, Jr., and his wife Annlouise; daughter Elizabeth Warmington Garcia and husband Michael; and daughter Meredith Warmington and husband Jeffrey Fluharty. Bill is also survived by five grandchildren whom he loved and cherished. Bill’s final gift to his family was the writing of an extensive family genealogy. His tireless, in-depth research and attention to detail will remain a priceless resource for generations to come.
