

Gladys Yuvonna “Bonnie” Applegate Ellis Poynter, 86, of Tollesboro, Kentucky died Friday, August 5, 2016 at the Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility. She was the widow of Teddy Poynter who died on January 17, 2016. The couple had been married for fifty years. Mrs. Poynter was a member of the Tollesboro United Methodist Church and attended the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. She had attended Morehead State University and at onetime was a substitute teacher for the Lewis County School System besides being engaged in farming with her late husband Teddy. She was born in Lewis County Kentucky on February 25, 1930 the daughter of the late George Thomas Applegate and Elsie Ryan Applegate. Mrs. Poynter is survived by her two daughters, Linda Hickerson (Steve) and Pat Doyle (Larry) both of Tollesboro, KY; grandchildren, Emily Thomas and Jennifer Miller (Timothy); great grandchildren, Jenna Thomas, Declan Thomas and Titus Miller; one brother, James A. Applegate of Tollesboro; sister-in-laws, Louanna Hamilton of Erlanger, KY and Maye Applegate of Tollesboro, KY; a niece, Anna June Hamilton of Wilder, KY and special cousins, Ester Brown and Eddie Ryan. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Juanita Phillips and brothers, Leonard Applegate, Wendell Applegate, Norman Applegate and Gary Applegate. Funeral services for Gladys “Bonnie” Poynter will be held at the Barbour and Son Funeral Home at 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 11, 2016 with Brother Jerry Eubanks officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 from 6 to 8 PM.
