Brandon Matthew Smith

June 30, 1994 – August 11, 2025

Brandon Matthew Smith, 31, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on August 11, 2025. Originally from

Hillsboro, Oregon, and Chewelah, Washington, Brandon was a beloved son, brother, boyfriend, and

friend.

He is survived by his mom, Becky Smith, and his dad, Shawn Smith; his siblings Bridget, Andrew,

Erin, Jordan, Eric, and Kevin; his fiancée, Chantel, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends

who loved him deeply.

Brandon was known for his big heart and quiet strength. He had a way of making people feel seen,

remembered, and taken care of. Whether it was through a perfectly timed Costco trip, a practical gift

chosen with thought, or simply showing up when you needed him, Brandon made people’s lives

easier—and fuller.

He was fiercely loyal to the things he loved: a perfectly cooked steak, his car (which he kept

immaculate), the Seattle Mariners through thick and thin, and the legacy of Kobe Bryant, whose drive

and mindset inspired him. He had a deep appreciation for the small joys of life—watching a game,

tinkering with his car, or quoting childhood movies like The Sandlot and Mulan.

Brandon cared deeply for his fiancée, Chantel, and his love for her was evident in the way he

supported, encouraged, and stood by her everyday.

At 18, Brandon suffered a traumatic brain injury that profoundly changed his life. He battled addiction

in the years that followed, and though the struggle was ongoing, there were moments—especially

when sober—when his true, caring nature shone through. He wanted to help, to protect, and to give.

Brandon’s life was complex and filled with both struggle and deep love. His passing is a

heartbreaking loss to all who knew him, and he will be remembered for the whole of who he was.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Hillsboro, Oregon, on Friday,

November 7th, 2025 at 11am. The recitation of the rosary will be at 10:30. A reception will follow in

the Parish Hall. All who knew and loved Brandon are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
