JR was raised in Portland, Oregon and loved representing his city. He attended Jefferson High School and later obtained his GED and worked a variety of jobs including commercial painter, custodian and maintenance technician. JR was a huge fan of the Trailblazers and Seahawks. He loved Old school cars, Cadillacs, R&B music, West coast rap and of course Jordan sneakers. He enjoyed trips to Lincoln City and spending time on Facebook posting the craziest memes to keep everyone laughing.
Anyone that knew JR even a little bit knew he loved his family more than anything. In 1993 he had his first son Jerry III followed by son Torrence. In early 2000 JR met Maria, the love of his life, and on Valentine’s Day in 2004 they were married. Maria previously had two kids (Jonathan and Destiny) that JR happily raised as his own. They also had 3 children together: Valerie, Cristal and Michael. JR was a devout father and worked hard to provide for his family.
In June of 2017, JR was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) and Small Lymphocytic Lymphoma (SLL). He fought the battle for 5 solid years. During Winter 2022 JR contracted COVID and his body was unable to fully fight off the infection. May 18th, 2022 while returning to Portland from a road trip, JR was hospitalized in Arizona with COVID pneumonia in both lungs. On June 14th, 2022, he succumbed to this illness while surrounded by his family.
