Matt Martin Stariha, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who spent his life providing for those he loved, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2026. He was a master mechanic, an incredible woodworker, and a jack of all trades. If he didn't know how to do something, he'd figure it out. Usually with a few choice words along the way. But above all his many talents he was first and foremost a provider and protector of his family.
He was born in Highland Park MI, spent time in California, and eventually made Phoenix home and raised his family. He was also a proud Army Military Police veteran, a generous man who was always willing to lend a hand, and the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back.
Matt held a License to Bullshit. His favorite comedic prop was his middle finger, and he was known to break into a song, usually one with lyrics that would make you laugh too hard. Known to be an ardent liberal and unabashed atheist. He was never one to hide who he was. Whether it was his opinions, his sense of humor, or his beliefs, what you saw was exactly what you got.
Matt is survived by his wife of 54 years, Terry—his teenage sweetheart. Together they built a life filled with love and resilience and raised three children: Robert and his wife Jessica of Phoenix, AZ; Rodney and his wife Kristie of Phenix City, AL; and their daughter Katie, who preceded him in death.
He was a proud grandfather to Matthew Stariha of Phenix City, AL; Cassidy Stariha of Phoenix, AZ; Evelyn Stariha of Phoenix, AZ; and Shelby Stariha, who also preceded him in death.
He is also survived by his sisters Betty Mattila of Acton, CA; Fran Moura of Honolulu, HI; Chris Hess of Crossville, TN and brother Dennis Dulong of Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matt Stariha and Katherine Dulong, and his sisters Gerri Bowman and Kathy Hull. He also shared a special bond with many nieces and nephews, who brought him a great deal of joy over the years.
More than anything, He taught us to work hard, that helping people mattered and laugh whenever you can.
A Funeral Service will be held at Advantage Crystal Rose Funeral Home, 9155 West Van Buren St, Tolleson, AZ 85353, US, on July 20, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
