Roberta (Bobbie) Virginia (Cushing) Chagaris of Toms River, New Jersey peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family at home on Saturday, November 9, 2019. She was 87. Bobbie was born on February 20, 1932 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Herbert and Marion (Pye) Martin.
She is survived by her children, Deborah (Robert) Rogers, Pat (Arthur) Cucuel, John (Gail) Cushing, and Paul (Cathy) Cushing; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, her sister Marion (John) Miller and the late Grace Mahoney and many nieces and nephews. Bobbie was predeceased by her husband Robert Cushing and her second husband Charles Chagaris and sons in-law Roger Hutchings and Greg Soska. Surviving are her step daughters Chris Hutchings, Becky Soska and extended family members.
Bobbie graduated Collingdale High School in Collingdale, PA, where she excelled in sports. Upon graduation she worked at General Electric in Philadelphia and later Revlon. Following marriage to Robert Cushing, she moved to New Brunswick, NJ and then Metuchen, NJ for 36 years. After retirement, they realized their dream of moving to the family home in Toms River.
As time passed while a widow, Bobbie’s friendship grew with her lifelong neighbor and dear friend’s brother Charlie Chagaris which led to their marriage in 2000.
Bobbie was an avid reader, loved to garden, loved the ocean, and loved living on the Barnegat Bay. Most of all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend whose family meant the world to her. She treasured and loved to recount the memories of her Mom and Dad and growing up at the Jersey shore. Her quiet faith in God has been a source of strength and inspiration to her family. Bobbie had a gracious heart, caring spirit and was deeply loved by her family and friends.
The memorial gathering will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 15, 2019 at the Anderson Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, New Jersey with a service following at 11:00 A.M. at New Life Baptist Church, 700 Main Street, Toms River, New Jersey. Reception to follow.
Private family graveside service will be held.
