Alexis Ruth Magala

Alexis received her undergraduate degree at Rutgers University and her Masters of Social Work at Fordham University, becoming a licensed social worker.

Alexis began her public service career as a probation officer in Ocean County Judiciary in the spring of 1989. She started as the Coordinator of the Supervised Visitation Program along with other duties. While in the family division, she was promoted to the position of senior probation officer. Her duties included case conferencing, home inspections, working with juveniles in crisis, and mentoring interns at the judiciary who were working on their bachelors of social work.

During her career, she received several prestigious awards at the judiciary. She was presented The Ocean Award for her individual excellence. Recently she was recognized with her colleagues for great team effort on court calendars, particularly the non-dissolution cases. Alexis loved her job and was compassionate with the litigants and coworkers with whom she worked.

Alexis was also a member of the Community Emergency Response Team of Ocean County (CERT). She was cited for her volunteer efforts during hurricane Irene and more recently for Superstorm Sandy.

She was also a licensed Real Estate agent with Bob Grimm Agency in Toms River since 1998. Alexis enjoyed biking, kayaking, travelling, and spending time with friends. She was very proud of achieving her black belt in Karate.

Alexis is survived by her brother Frank, sister Connie, cousins, and many loyal, caring friends. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her so much.

A Memorial Gathering to celebrate the life of Alexis will be held on Friday, November 13 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River. Cremation is private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alexis Ruth Magala Scholarship.
