ALFRED G. DANIELS, JR. resided in Pemberton, NJ, departed this life on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Samaritan Hospice Hospital, Mount Holly, NJ. Alfred Daniels, Jr., son of late Alfred Sr. and Helen Daniels, was born on September 22, 1941 in Dover, DE. Alfred attended William Henry Comprehensive High School, where he also played basketball. He loved to watch football, basketball and western movies and continued to travel to high school sporting games, even into his adult life. He spent his free time going to the worksite of nephew Jimmy to oversee the jobs.
Upon graduation from high school, he joined the U.S. Army along with buddies: Michael Cason, Richard Durham, Calvin Bradley and Randy Watson.
Alfred spent two tours of duty in Germany and he was proud to have been part of building the Berlin Wall. He was awarded the Army of Occupational Medal (Germany). Unfortunately, after only spending one week in Vietnam he was quickly sent home (with an honorable discharge) because there was another serviceman with the same name. During that time two family members could not serve overseas at the same time. He was proud of being a paratrooper.
Upon returning to civilian life, Alfred worked tirelessly as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service and retired after 30 years of service as a shop steward. He was most proud of the fact that he could endure all of the elements of weather. His time as a letter carrier evolved into a passion for walking This is an activity that Alfred continued, even when in the nursing home. You could find him walking every opportunity that he was able to do so.
He loved his baseball caps and his scarf. You rarely saw him without one and this was even when dressed in a fresh suit. This look became his own personal style of dress, not to impress.
Alfred was predeceased in death by his parents, sisters, Lydia Daniels, Frances "Lorsie" Short, Margaret Demby and son, Jeffrey Daniels.
