Andrew F. Governale, Jr., 84, of Manchester, N.J., passed away peacefully on July 20, 2024, with his loving wife by his side. Born on August 19, 1939, in Newark, Andy grew up in Nutley, earning the affectionate nickname "Junior" among those who knew him well.
In 1962, Andy proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army. Upon returning home, he embarked on a successful career in the trucking industry, starting as an owner-operator and eventually founding G&S Trucking. Under his leadership, the company thrived, securing the rock salt contract for the entire State of New Jersey. From 1995 to 2002, Andy co-owned Cubby’s BBQ in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, further showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit. In later years, he continued to contribute to the industry with C&A Trucking in Newark and A. Veniero & Sons Trucking in Belleville, overseeing truckers and managing salt ship operations at Port Newark until 2023.
In January 2004, Andy met Marlene Marchione through her sister and brother-in-law. It was love at first sight, and they married in March 2005. Their love story endured until his final moments.
Andy was an active member of the Montville and Fairfield chapters of UNICO. True to his Leo zodiac sign, he had a roaring presence but also a gentle, lamb-like side. He was cherished by friends old and new, and he enjoyed his Wednesday night card games with the guys from the Shed, at the Renaissance, his community in Manchester.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Annette (née Pitronaci), on December 6, 1998, Andy is survived by his children, Anthony Governale and Renee Orrico (John Orrico); his granddaughter, Gianna Annette Orrico; his beloved wife, Marlene Marchione; and his stepson, Anthony Marchione.
A Mass will be held on Friday, July 26, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in Toms River, N.J.
Arrangements were entrusted to Horizon Funeral & Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 W, Toms River, N.J.
