Anthony was born on December 6, 1933, to Joseph and Josephine (Rella) Listro in Bergenfield, New Jersey, where he played baseball and basketball until he graduated from high school in 1952. Anthony proudly served his country from 1954 to 1956 in the U.S. Army, primarily in Germany during the Korean conflict, and was honorably discharged with a Specialist rank and a good conduct medal.
In 1958, Anthony married his “sweetheart” Gloria Ann Aquino after he swept her off of her feet on a blind date. They raised three wonderful sons in Washington Township, New Jersey while Anthony worked as a letter carrier and supervisor for the U. S. Postal Service for 27 years. He was very involved in his children’s lives coaching their little league teams and attending games and tournaments. His strong work ethic, his giving nature, and his love for family was instilled in his three sons, whom he loved so much. After his retirement from USPS, Anthony worked at Unilever for 8 years and retired to Brick, New Jersey and then to Toms River, New Jersey. He spent his final years at Sunrise Senior Living in Cresskill and at The Residence at Park Ridge.
Anthony was a die-hard Yankees fan, and in his later years he loved playing card games, playing bocce, watching classic movies, and listening to Frank Sinatra. His favorite song, “My Way”, perfectly describes how he lived his life.
Anthony is survived by his beautiful wife, Gloria, and his three sons Joseph (Deneen) Listro, Michael Listro, and Anthony Listro; and his grandchildren Ryan (Kelly) Listro, Kaitlin Murphy (Matthew Mazzoni), and Matthew Listro.
Anthony was predeceased by his parents, and his brothers Sebastian (Josephine) Listro, and Vincent (Beverly) Listro.
He will be interred at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, New Jersey, after a private military veteran service.
