Anthony P. Marcantuono aka “Bully,” 79, of Toms River passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on February 14, 2025. Born in Newark, NJ, Anthony was the son of Lorenzo Marcantuono and Antoinette Marcantuono (nee’ DeSarno).
Anthony attended Barringer High School North Ward, in Newark, NJ. Upon graduation he became a hairdresser and owned and operated LuJons Hair Salon, in Verona, NJ for most of his life. In addition to making people beautiful he worked part time at FedEx at Newark Airport.
As a young couple, Anthony and his wife Barbara moved to Belleville to raise their family. Their house had an open-door policy, with people constantly coming and going especially during the holidays and summer months when everyone would gather to swim in his pool and barbeque.
After retirement, Anthony and Barbara moved to Toms River to enjoy life with family and their many friends. Their joy was short lived as Barbara, the love of his life, predeceased him and left him with a broken heart.
Anthony loved old movies, sitting on the beach, music, dancing, martial arts, shopping, driving Lincolns and travelling. He was always dressed to the nines with matching shoes and watches no matter what crazy color they may be. He loved good food, comparing recipes and arguing with his brother Chris over who made it better.
His two daughters, Melissa Fogle (husband Mike) of Nutley and Tara Marcantuono of Seaside Heights were his top priority, whom he loved unconditionally. He adored his grandchildren Michael and Isabella Fogle and took great pride in their accomplishments.
Anthony was generous to a fault giving his last dollar to anyone in need. He fooled people with a tough exterior but everyone who knew him knew he was a gentle soul. He cherished every moment spent with his family and friends whether sharing meals, telling stories or simply enjoying each other’s company. He was liked by many and loved by his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Barbara, his parents Lorezo and Antionette Marcantuono and brother Lorenzo Marcantuono. He leaves behind his daughter Melissa Fogle, son in law Michael Fogle, daughter Tara Marcantuono, grandchildren Michael and Isabella Fogle, brother Chris Marcantuono and wife Diane, brother Joseph Marcantuono, sister-in-law Gloria Marcantuono, and sister-in-law Stephanie Ferrara, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
