Barbara Newman

Barbara was born on February 8, 1943 to Juanita Nelson and Frank Hines, Sr. in Mount Vernon, New York. Barbara attended A.B. Davis High School located in Mount Vernon, New York where she graduated on June 26, 1961. She attended Greater Centennial AME Zion Church in Mount Vernon New York where she accepted Christ as her Savior. She was a faithful member of the young adult choir. Barbara was predeceased by her parents-Frank, Sr. and Juanita Hines, a great-aunt-Florence Williams, a sister-Colleen Hines, two brothers-Gary Hines and Frank Hines, Jr.

In New York Barbara first employer was Reader’s Digest; thereafter she was employed by New York Bell Telephone for several years.

In April 1968 she married Wilbert B. Newman, to this union two daughters were born Denecia Lynette and Nicole Antoinette. They resided in New York until August 1971 when the family moved to Lakewood, New Jersey. Barbara gained employment as the Building Supervisor for The Tower Apartments in Lakewood, New Jersey where she was employed for many years.

Barbara’s life was fulfilled being a fulltime mother and friend to her two daughters (Denecia and Nicole). Denecia made her a proud grandmother on May 19, 2004, a beautiful baby girl (Trenier Adonya). Again God blessed her on January 22, 2007 with another beautiful grand-baby girl (Devon Shanell).

Barbara’s health was failing. She recently re-affirmed her faith in God and again accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters Denecia L. Quander of North Brunswick, NJ and Nicole A. Newman of Prince Georges County, Maryland; one Son-In-Law-Donald B. Quander, two granddaughters Trenier A. Quander and Devon S. Quander; her husband-Wilbert B. Newman of New York, Cousins-Rose and Michael Lopez and a host of other family and friends.

As she moves on through the “pearly gates of heaven”, we can hear the angles say “Barbara” you have given your best to all who knew you.
