

Bernard John Hemmerling passed away March 4, 2024. Born in Elmwood Park, NJ January 15, 1940 to Anne and Henry Hemmerling. He is survived by his wife, Denise, children Debra and David and his brother Henry. He graduated from Pope Pius High School in Elmwood Park and attended Catholic University in Washington DC and graduated from Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ with a degree in Business Administration.
The family summered in Seaside Park for years and moved there permanently. An avid swimmer, Bernie became a member of the Seaside Park Beach Patrol. His first assignment was at the 5th Ave. Pier and Beach where he got his nickname “Bayside Bernie!” He did move on to the Beach but never lost the nickname. He was an avid golfer and became a Professional Golfer and member of the Professional Golfers Association. It was at his job at Ramsey Golf and Country Club where he met Denise and got married. Having played baseball through High School, he signed up his son David to play baseball in the Island Junior Baseball League in Lavallette, NJ and became a coach. He loved coaching the kids and it held a lot of fond memories for him. His daughter Debi played clarinet in the Central Regional Marching Band and he signed up to be a “Band Parent” and helped out at every football game and band competition. It was a hectic schedule but he loved every minute of it.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Catharine of Siena Church, 50 E. Street, Seaside Park. Cremation is private.
