Betty W. Applegate

Betty W. Applegate, 88, of Toms River, NJ passed away on April 20, 2021 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Betty was born in Newark, NJ and graduated from Bloomfield High School. She retired from the Toms River Township Tax Collectors office. Betty was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Toms River where she served as an Elder, Deacon, a member of the Children’s Council, and played in the Handbell choir.

Betty is predeceased by her parents Vincent and Laura West and her husband Edwin J. Applegate. She is survived by her children, daughter Robin and husband Sean Schaad of Island Heights, NJ, her son James and wife Pamela Applegate of Pine Beach, NJ, her son Dale Applegate and his partner Jeff Grosso of Bayville, NJ and her son Glen and wife Lori Applegate of Manchester, NJ. Also survived by five grandchildren Jillian, Noah, Adam, Andrew and Holly; her sisters Ruth Mulbach and Doris Ratti and a brother Ronald West; and many nephews and nieces.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Toms River, 1070 Hooper Ave., Toms River, NJ. Cremation is private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Presbyterian Church of Toms River Music Program in Betty’s memory would be appreciated.

Betty was a wonderful women, so glad I got to meet an be her friend my daughter Lori married her son Glen Applegate. She was always a pleasure when she came to visit always a smile and kind word about everyone. She will be missed at our family functions but will always be in our hearts, she will never be forgotten. We love you Betty.

I served with Betty on Children’s Council at the Presbyterian Church for many years. She was always will to help when ever needed. Loved her lemon bars. It was always good to see her at the Church Ladies night out!

It was the best day when Uncle Ed married sweet Aunt Betty. It has been a pleasure to also be able to work in the tax office with her. She was the best. I have missed seeing her every day. Love to all of you at this time.
