Caroline Wolgast, 75, of Tinton Falls and a longtime resident of Pine Beach, died suddenly on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Jersey City to Charles and Emma Fusaris, Carol graduated from Dickinson High School in 1956. She earned her certification from court reporting school and traveled throughout New Jersey as a freelance court reporter for many years. She moved to Pine Beach in 1972 to raise her family and start her career as a court reporter in Superior Court at the Ocean County Courthouse in Toms River, retiring in 2001. She had great respect and admiration for the judges, lawyers and colleagues with whom she worked throughout the years.
Growing up, she enjoyed summer car trips with her family to their bungalow on Barnegat Bay and vacationing at the Jersey Shore. Her love of the beach continued throughout her life. Some of her favorite times were spent at the beach house in Lavallette, on the boardwalk with her grandkids, taking walks along the river in Ocean Gate, fun times at "Floaters," cruising to countless tropical destinations and wintering on Marco Island, FL. Lover of chocolate, animals, sporty cars and a good zinger, passionate in her beliefs, picker of ponies, thrower of dice, expert Scrabble player and wordsmith extraordinaire, she possessed a great laugh and a quick wit like no other. Carol was blessed to have an amazing circle of lifelong and newfound friends and will be missed by all.
She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Mick, in 2010. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Notholt of North Bergen; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn and Michael Plosica of Monmouth Beach, and Eileen and Joseph Hetrick of Cape Elizabeth, Maine; and a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Jennifer Wolgast of Pine Beach. She was a treasured Mimi to her six grandchildren, Morgan, Riley, Meredith, Brett, Kate and Jack. She is also survived by Greg and Deborah Notholt of Bradley Beach, Patricia Notholt, Nina Notholt and Joey Vargas, all of Spring Lake Heights.
A gathering of friends will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. A funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6 at St. Barnabas Church, 33 Woodland Rd., Bayville. Burial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown. Condolences may be made by visiting www.andersonandcampbell.com
