Catherine “Doris” Forrester (nee Sullivan), 90, of Silver Beach, formerly of Jersey City, passed away peacefully on December 8th at Community Medical Center in Toms River after a brief illness. Born in Jersey City, Doris grew up in Saint Paul’s parish, attended Holy Family Academy, and from there went to work at AT&T in New York City. After marrying, she and her husband William “Bill” Forrester raised their family of 7 children in Jersey City. Doris was a devout Catholic and a daily communicant for many years. She worked hard and was proud to send her children to Saint Paul’s School, Saint Dominic Academy & St. Peter’s Prep. After raising her children, Doris went to work for the Trust Company of New Jersey as a bank teller and later as a teacher’s assistant for the Jersey City Board of Education.
Doris loved to travel. She and Bill enjoyed many trips throughout the United States and Europe as well as many cruises. They also made over 10 visits to Hawaii!! An avid reader, particularly of mysteries, Doris also read two to three newspapers daily, staying on top of everything that was happening in Hudson county!
Doris was predeceased by her husband William, her son Bill, and her brother William Sullivan. She is survived by her loving sister Eileen Morris, six children, Dr. Catherine Forrester and her husband Charles Russell, Marianne and James Munday, Virginia and Richard Bender, Doranne Rossiter, Michael and Deborah Forrester, and Karen and Kevin Larkin.
Doris was most happy when she was surrounded by her sixteen grandchildren, Will, Kira, Sam, Cathy, Patrick, Matthew, Kelly, Eddie, Michael Liam, Kelly, Riley, Danni Erin, Kevin, Kaitlyn, Conor and Christopher. She was also blessed with 2 great-grandchildren, Amelia and Henry, and many nieces and nephews. Doris enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s countless sporting events, performances, parties, graduations and welcomed them for many years at her home in Silver Beach where the countless memories and “Nana-isms” will live on forever.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 pm on Friday, December 13th at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial shall be 10:30 am on Saturday, December 14th at Our Lady of Perpetual Help R.C. Church, 100 Grant Ave. in Seaside Heights, NJ. Cremation will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Doris’ name to OASIS tlc, 1 Morgan Road, Middletown, NJ 07748, a local farm community providing meaningful work, peaceful residences & community interaction for young adults with autism.
