Born on a dairy farm in Cherokee, Iowa, she cherished her early years riding her pony to bring the cows home, a treasured memory from her childhood. A 1939 graduate of Wilson High School, Delores pursued her education at the American Institute of Business before moving to Washington, D.C., to contribute to the government’s efforts during World War II. It was there, at a dance, that she met the love of her life, Guido Devivi, a proud Marine. After raising her family, Delores embarked on a 25-year career at Macy’s before retiring to Toms River, New Jersey. For the past 40 years, she embraced life to the fullest, becoming an avid golfer and bocce player, and even taking up mah-jongg at the age of 90 with the same enthusiasm she brought to every aspect of her life. She also loved crossword puzzles, card games, and Rummikub, always eager for a challenge.
Delores was predeceased by her beloved husband, Guido; her grandson, Michael Devivi; and later by Owen McMahon.
She is survived by her brother, Ronald Mortenson of Cherokee, Iowa; her son, Michael Devivi and his wife, Ruth; her daughter, Della Colette Oshiro and her partner, Noel Blanch. She also leaves behind three grandchildren—Kim, Bryan, and Mark—and seven great-grandchildren: Melanie, Faith, Angelina, Michael, Mia, Jessica, Markie, and Dominic.
Delores’ remarkable life was defined by her strength, love, and a spirited sense of adventure. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
