Dorothy “Dottie” Markle, 85, of Brick passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 14th surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sevierville, TN, she worked at the age of 18 as a Magician’s Assistant for the famous illusionist John Calvert for several years. In 1965 she met and married her late husband Howard Vernon Markle. She moved to the north in 1969, with her late husband and daughter Julie, for which she held many careers until she found her love of the ocean and beach that eventually led her to Atlantic City becoming one of the first female supervisors at the Resorts International Casino, where she was better known as one of “Merv’s Girls”.
Dottie’s love of the ocean and shore was what made her realize that she was now a true “Jersey Girl” at heart. She had a passion for life and everyone that she was surrounded by. She cherished her friendship with the legendary John and June Carter Cash and loved meeting other celebrities throughout her life.
Dottie was predeceased by her husband Howard Vernon, and is survived by her son Richard Knott and his wife Robin of Athens, TN, two daughters, Donna Fisher of Merryville, TN, Julie Price and her husband Keith of Little Egg Harbor, NJ, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
The family of Dottie would like to acknowledge and thank the wonderful staff at Brandywine Reflections in Brick, NJ for making the last 4 ½ years of Dottie’s life so happy, active and loving. Services will be private, in the care of the Anderson & Campbell Funeral home, 703 Main Street Toms River, NJ.
