

Born in Norristown, PA on July 16, 1933, Doug was the son of Douglas Stephen Walther Sr., a carpenter-turned-steelworker and Helen Lindsey Walther, an Irish mother.
In 1951, Doug gave his horse away to his best friend and at 17, his mother signed the papers allowing Doug to join the U.S. Marines. With 750 parachute jumps, 3 Purple Hearts, 2 tours of duty in Korea and 1 tour in Vietnam, Doug loved every minute of it. He landed at Fort Monmouth and met his first wife at the Navy Office. Doug and Kay were married 41 years until Kay died in 1994. In 2005, Doug married Carol Quinby.
With 24 years of military training, Doug held the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Marines Third Division. There was no doubt that his time at Camp Pendleton, Camp Lejune and Southeast Asia assigned to Force Recon, left an indelible mark on Doug Walther.
He worked for JCP&L as a supervisor until his retirement in 1995. Doug was a member of the Korean War Veterans, Vietnam War Veterans, VFW, American Legion and Marine Corps League. He served as Commandant of the Corporal Phillip A. Reynolds Detachment in Freehold, The Purple Heart Association of Belford and was a life member of the Red Bank Elks.
Surviving is his wife Carol of Red Bank, NJ; sisters Kathleen Yothers and Thelma Kuesel, both of North Carolina; nephew and niece Gerald Hansen and Jerrilyn Sands of Florida.
As per Doug's request, there will be no funeral service. Donations in his memory can be made to the Marine Corps League Corporal Phillip A. Reynolds Detachment in Freehold, NJ.
