Eileen Margaret Wallace

May 22, 1939September 2, 2020

She was born in Jersey City on May 22, 1939 to James and MaryEllen Cooney. Eileen was raised in Harrison, New Jersey where she attended Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church and graduated Queen of Peace High School.

Eileen worked in the benefits office of Bell Telephone Company in Newark. It was here where a friend from work set her up on a blind date with the man who would be the love of her life. Eileen married Clarence Ward “Chick” Wallace III on June 23, 1962.

Eileen and Chick moved to Toms River in 1964 to raise their family. Even with three daughters at home, Eileen made time to sing in the choir at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, be a member of the Catholic Daughters, and work as a visiting homemaker for Help Mates.

Service to family and church was paramount, but Eileen knew how to have fun! Eileen and Chick bowled every Monday night at Playdrome Lanes in the “guys & dolls” league and did monthly trivia with friends. Eileen had a great time with her friends playing a monthly Bunco game night and going to the beach at Second Avenue in Seaside Park. After retirement, Eileen and Chick spent time traveling and going on cruises. Their favorite pastime was playing with their grandchildren!

Eileen is preceded by her parents, James and MaryEllen Cooney, and her brother Jim. She is survived by her husband, Ward “Chick” Wallace; her daughters Karen Wallace, Beverly Entin, and Gale Carroll; her son-in-laws Jeffrey Entin and Kevin Carroll; her grandchildren Ella Austin, Lillie Austin, Jared Entin, Kyle Entin, Amy Entin, Colin Carroll, and Liam Carroll; her siblings Theresa Kerekes and John Cooney; and her cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Please join us in celebrating Eileen and her amazing life at Anderson & Campbell on September 9 from 4:00-7:00 pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church on September 10 at 10:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Eileen’s name to the Alzheimer's Association, Greenwood House who took such good care of Eileen and her family during her last weeks, or St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church where Eileen was an active member for more than fifty years.

For Ward and the girls, our sincerest sorrow for the loss of Eileen. We will always remember the good times.... camping in Virginia; our trip to Disney World with both families (12 of us!) in the Dodge van; Hershey Park; wine tasting and dinner at Renault Winery; barbecues with the Biesters, Patrans and Laubs; the annual Valentines Day dinners and more. Rest in Peace, Eileen.
