

Elizabeth “Betsy” Smith, 66, of Toms River, NJ, passed away at home on November 7, 2017, after bravely battling cancer and defying the odds for 7 years, with her loving family at her side. She was determined to continue on and not let this disease define her or affect her way of life. With strength and resolve she went on with life attending to her grandchildren’s activities and other life events, enjoying every moment. She was born in Trenton, NJ, to William and Elizabeth Bayles, and was a long time resident of Toms River. Elizabeth received her Bachelor’s degree from Trenton State College. She worked as a Speech Therapist for Lacey Township School District, retiring in 2014. Elizabeth enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her wonderful grandchildren.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her son Bill Smith and wife Noelle of Toms River; her daughter Katie Cleary and husband Brian of Toms River; her brother William “Mark” Bayles of Toms River; and her grandchildren: Brooklyn, Jake, and Sophie. Elizabeth possessed a selfless work ethic and her loving and dedicated nature were an inspiration to her family and her students. Anyone who knew her instantly felt welcomed and loved by her. She touched the hearts of everyone she came across and excepted everyone .
Visitation will be Sunday, November 12th, from 6 to 9PM at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River. Cremation will be private.
