Emily B. Garcia

Emily was predeceased by her beloved husband of 25 years, Joseph (Joe) Garcia, and is survived by her three children; Joseph and his wife, Barbara Olson, of Arizona, Roxanne and her husband, Rodney Dobbins, of Englishtown, and Gerard and his wife, Alisa Garcia, of Brooklyn. She also leaves a granddaughter, Emily Dobbins, daughter of Roxanne and Rodney.

Emily was born in Brooklyn, raised in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, and lived most of her adult life in Manalapan and Freehold, before moving to Whiting.

Emily was always a high energy, independent thinking person, who prided herself on her New York City sensibility and street savvy. After her husband’s passing, these characteristics (and her great persistence) eventually lead to her becoming an independent licensed contractor and owner of JGR Homes for 20 plus years. She took great pride and pleasure in building energy efficient, custom homes for families in the South Jersey area. During her tenure as a builder, Emily even won Energy Star Awards from the EPA for protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency achievement.

In Emily’s younger days, when she was raising her children, Emily enjoyed gardening, cooking, outdoor sports such as swimming, skiing and horseback riding, sewing outfits for her children, and other crafts. She also loved to travel, and went on many trips with her husband and later, adult children. Of her many trips within the United States and internationally, she seemed to most enjoy telling stories about her trips to Italy, London, Mexico.

She was a devoted and loving mother and friend, and will be missed greatly.

Visitation will be on Saturday, December 21st, 2019 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am at Horizon Funeral and Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 W, Toms River, NJ 08755. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday at 10:45 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 30 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting.  Burial at 11:00 am Monday, December 23, 2019 at Holy Cross Burial Park, 840 Cranbury South River Road, East Brunswick.
