Ethel M. Smith, 100 years old, of Toms River, went home to be with the Lord on June 2, 2021. Born in Hurtsboro, AL, she lived in Lakewood before moving to Toms River 2 years ago. Before her retirement, Ethel worked as insurance underwriter for many years. She proudly marched in the Civil Rights Movement with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Birmingham, Alabama. Ethel was a devoted spiritual woman of God and a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Lakewood. She loved gardening, sewing and cooking.
She was predeceased by her parents Robert and Amy Miggins, her beloved husband Holt Smith Sr., her children Joseph W., Janie Turner , Holt Jr. and her grandson Cedric Turner. Surviving are her two daughters Amy DeLoatch and Barbara Beatty; her 6 grand-children Tijuana Frison, Timothy Smith, Jackie James, Marcus Smith, Amy Smith and Marquesa Smith; and a host of caring great and great great grand-children
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River. Entombment will follow at Ocean County Memorial Park in Toms River.
