Fred Emil Torstrup, 85, of Toms River, NJ, passed away on February 24th, 2014, at CMC in Toms River. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Ingolf Emil and Laura (Enoksen) Torstrup. He bravely served in the U.S. Air Force during WW II. Fred then went to Indiana Technical College in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he received a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed by Curtis Wright as an Aerospace Engineer. He then started his own business, Fred Torstrup Industrial Real Estate Co. Fred lived in Saddle River, NJ before moving to Toms River in 1986.
Mr. Torstrup was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Toms River and an Alumni Member of Indiana Tech. He belonged to many organizations, including: Toms River VFW Post #6063; East Dover Volunteer Fire Company #4, serving as an instructor at the fire academy; a retired member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary where he was a Division Captain; and also the Toms River Elks.
He was predeceased by his first wife Ingred. Fred is survived by his beloved wife Leslie Ann; two sons Christopher Mac Taggart and his wife Kirsten and their children Ryan, Amalia and Lachlan who loved to call him Opa and Popa; and his son Trevor Pettennude and his wife Katie and their son Parker; his cousins Bertram Torstrup and Pamela and Rev. Dr. Edwin Cromey; and cherished relatives in Norway. Fred was truly a loving man and will be dearly missed by his family.
Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 27, 2-4 & 7-9 PM, at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ. There will be an 11:30 AM funeral service on Friday, Feb. 28, at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, Toms River. Burial will follow at Brig. Gen William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ. The services will be officiated by Rev. Dr. Edwin Cromey.
