To the Cappella family,
My parents were lifelong residents of Dunellen. In 1991, my father died unexpectedly at home on Memorial Day weekend. I will always be grateful that Gerry was the patrolman who answered the call.

I was living an hour away, and my brother was away for the weekend. Gerry was wonderfully compassionate, calm, and incredibly thoughtful to my mother on this very difficult evening. Waiting for the coroner on a holiday weekend extended the pain and shock for our family, but Gerry stayed until everything was resolved.

My mother went on to live for many years afterward. Gerry frequently patrolled past her house for years, even when he became Chief, always waving to mom when she was outside gardening. Mom loved that Gerry was still looking out for her.

I have never forgotten Gerry’s kindness to my family.

Gerry, you are one of the kindest people I have ever met. You made my work day easy with all of your positive attributes. The workplace will not be the same without you. From the day you gave me my pink tiara and wand (from the party store, ha, ha!!), and gave me the name "Princess", I knew we would be great friends. I could assign someone else to call me Princess (cause we all know how that works!!), but it just would not be the same.
Heaven has received one of our favorites. You truly earned your wings.

Love Denise :-)

Dear Diana & Family,

As I read through all these memories of Gerry, I can't help but feel all the pride I feel in knowing such a great man. Gerry was so much fun to be around. Coming to know him only through my once significant other working with him. Gerry graciously accepted me as a friend inviting me to your house even when my significant other couldn't make it. I didn't feel the least bit uneasy coming alone as Gerry made me feel so comfortable as well as Diana. I had such a great time just sitting and talking with the both of you and watching the doggies swim in the pool. Over the years we had fun when in each other's company, whether it be a work function or an officer's wedding. I remember Gerry telling me that when I go to Atlantic City to play Let It Ride as this was his favorite game. Needless to say, I played Let It Ride and enjoyed playing, but was never lucky at it like he was. I hold in my heart the fondest memories of Gerry and my heart hurts for God calling him home way too soon. He was a gem of a human being and will be sadly missed. My heartfelt condolences to the entire Cappella Family and to all who knew and loved him. Heaven gained one heck of angel. Rest easy Chief! You'll remain in my heart forever!! Always remember that memories live forever and love never dies.
