Gloria Ann Christiansen

Gloria Ann (Backes) Christiansen, 91, passed away on July 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on October 31, 1934, Gloria was the beloved daughter of Henry and Hermina Backes. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Christian C. Christiansen.

Gloria is survived by her devoted sons, Christian Christiansen and his wife, Cheryl, and Eugene Christiansen and his wife, Phyllis. She was a proud grandmother to Eric Christiansen and his wife, Danielle; Brian Christiansen; Leanna Fishburne and her husband, John; and Jessica Petrolino and her husband, Michael. She was also a cherished great-grandmother to Athena, Elise, River, and Eddie, each of whom brought her immense joy. Gloria also leaves behind her adored nieces, nephews, and cousins with whom she shared a lifetime of wonderful memories.

Gloria had a passion for seeing the world and enjoyed traveling extensively throughout her life. She loved spending time with friends, entertaining, and playing cards and mahjong with her Fairways Community neighbors. Gloria treasured her summers on Long Beach Island, where countless family memories were made. A proud 1956 graduate of Georgian Court College (now University), Gloria dedicated many years to volunteering and fundraising on their behalf. She also enjoyed boating, skiing, and serving her community including as an active member and past president of the Linden (NJ) Lions Club.

Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who brought Gloria joy throughout the years and who have offered their love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. In particular, the family would like to recognize and thank Cherry Morales for the devoted care, companionship, and compassion she provided to Gloria during her final years.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Monday, July 20, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, New Jersey.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke's Church in Toms River, New Jersey, followed by interment at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia, New Jersey.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Gloria's memory to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
