

Hadassah F. Berger of Toms River, passed away on Monday, August 13th, 2012, at home, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, (near Boston) and spent most of her adult life in Lakewood; later moving to Toms River in 1968. Mrs. Berger graduated from Hunter College, NY, and Georgian Court University, Lakewood, NJ. She taught Hebrew School at the Park Avenue Synagogue in NY for many years, later marrying her husband Edward there. She was an accomplished artist and taught art for over 25 years at Lakehurst Elementary School, where she was awarded the Teaching Excellence Award of Merit by Grade Teacher Magazine, for outstanding teaching performance in the field of elementary education. Hadassah was a strong supporter of the State of Israel. She was a congregant of the Congregation B’nai Israel of Toms River, where she was also a member of the Hadassah Organization and very interested in politics. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Hadassah is survived by her husband Edward D. Berger, a local Real Estate and Insurance Entrepreneur, to whom she was happily married for almost 63 years; her three children: Jonathan Z. Berger and his wife Sandra of Freehold; Elizabeth and her husband Dr. Barry Perlman of Toms River; and Daniel Berger and his wife Julie. She is also survived by her eight wonderful grandchildren: Joseph, Zachary, Jeremy, Mitchell, Alex, Jacob, Sam, and Molly; her sister Shelley Scherman of Riverdale, NY, and her adoring caregiver Lidiia.
A graveside service will be held at Congregation B’nai Israel Memorial Park in Toms River on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 2:00 PM. Memorial Contributions in her name to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, Toms River, NJ, is in charge of arrangements.
