

Born in Passaic, NJ, he lived in Fairfield before moving to the towns of Belleville and Nutley.
James served his country honorably in South Korea during the Vietnam War and was a long-time member of the American Legion and AMVETS Post 26 in Belleville, NJ. He was the owner of a small business called Fleming’s Restaurant and Bar Supply in Belleville, NJ.
He is survived by his wife, Valentina (nee Holland) Fleming; children, Jennifer, Christine and James Jr. ; grandchildren, James and Gabriella; nephew, Jeffrey; and many other loving nieces and nephews.
“Big Jim”, a consummate joke teller and seasoned prankster, lived a life full of laughter, humor, love and generosity. His ability to tell a funny story, make people laugh and bring joy to others, whether family, friends or strangers, will always be remembered.
A visitation will be held at Horizon Funeral & Cremation Services, located at 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River, NJ, 08755, on November 22, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A reception will be held at Horizon Funeral & Cremation Services, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
A committal service will take place at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562 on November 28, 2025, from 10:00 am to 10:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to AMVETS.
